Women in Leadership Certification

Professor: Julie Kelsey and Sherry Lynch

Taken: Spring 2023

Description: The Certificate in Women’s Leadership is a 3-month, non-degree course designed for professionals who wish to develop skills and practices for advancing women in the workplace. Through online learning and virtual immersions, the course will expose students to research and studies regarding women in the workplace, as well as current readings and materials on the subject. Additionally, the course will offer practical skills for overcoming common barriers facing women in the workplace.

Reflection: I work in Information Technology Cybersecurity. It is a male-dominated environment and I wanted to learn additional soft-skills that were specific to some of the issues I face based on gender. I met an amazing group of humans, and over two weekends in Spokane, learned a lot about some of the habits that I have that can limit my potential in leadership. I think about this class a lot as, at first, I was frustrated that I had to change myself to be successful in a male-dominant environment. Instead, I reached out to my male leaders and recommended the reading materials from the class and I have increased my network of advocates.
